When you think of barbecue, you probably think mainly of burgers, kebabs and other associated delicacies. But what many people forget is that the barbecue is also the ideal place to prepare delicious desserts.
“If you want a burger, you’ve got to go for it”, a well-known slogan we all hear at the end of a barbecue session. And even if you’ve had enough. So next time, take more time to prepare delicious BBQ desserts! We all crave variety. Because what better way to end your barbecue evening than with a sweet show? Also practical: you don’t need to bother with preparation, because the barbecue is your best friend. We’re sharing the tastiest barbecue dessert recipes your tongue really should try this summer. Back to work!
A full boat
While you’re probably used to eating a banana straight out of the box, or at most adding it to a fruit salad, it’s the basis of a dessert you can’t wait to eat. It’s just as simple: cut the banana peel lengthways, spread a little butter in the cavity if necessary, place some chocolate chunks in the peel and wrap the whole thing in aluminium foil. In addition to chocolate, add all your favorite toppings: nuts, mini marshmallows, pour a little rum over them or sprinkle a few festive sprinkles on top. And ready for the BBQ! In short: fully customizable and as chic as you like! For a real eye-catcher, serve a scoop of (vanilla) ice cream alongside this stuffed banana boat.
We want S’mores!
Do you know that? Those super-appealing culinary videos that are not only tasty for your mouth, but also for your eyes? S’mores is a true example. Especially if you’ve seen the slow-motion footage of how the melted marshmallows from the sea of chocolate are recovered with a simple cookie. A barbecue dessert that’s slowly moving away from American barbecue and something not to be missed. It’s best to use a (small) BBQ bowl or pan. You’ll build layers: chocolate (it can also be with peanut pieces in it), marshmallows and cookies inserted here and there. To add a little more balance and an attempt at “health”, you can add summer strawberries. The whole thing can be thrown on the barbecue and dipped together.

Apple, ice cream
Is the above a bit too much of a sugar bomb for you? This dessert goes down a little easier. The base is an apple with cinnamon and sugar, but you decide how sweet you want it. And if you want an extra touch, add a dash of rum. Cut about one apple per person into pieces and place in aluminum foil. Sprinkle with cinnamon and a little sugar and seal. After 5 to 10 minutes, it is well cooked and easy to prick. The best part is serving a new scoop of (vanilla) ice cream on the side. That way you can cool off a bit after all that barbecue heat!
Out of your stick
Do you still have a few skewers left from all those BBQ ingredients? Use it to thread all kinds of fruit! Pineapples, strawberries, apples, melons, etc. Place it on the BBQ and let it grill as you would a satay skewer. This fresh fruit dessert will keep you cool after that big barbecue!
Peach ribs: Peach ribs!
Last but not least, this sweet vegetarian version of spareribs. This way, you stay in the barbecue mood, but add a touch of flavor at the end of the evening. Here’s how to do it: cut the peach in half and place it on the barbecue grill, which will leave beautiful grill marks on the peach. Put the finishing touches to your BBQ by sprinkling vanilla sauce on top or, as with other BBQ recipes, serving a scoop of ice cream on top. If you want to keep it a little healthier, replace the vanilla sauce with cottage cheese or Greek yoghurt, then top it off with honey and roasted barbecue nuts. After that, you’ll be able to put away your average ribs!
It doesn’t matter which barbecue dessert you serve, as long as you serve one. Because your stomach also expects something other than those endless burgers and baguettes with herbed cheese. Very sweet!
